The role of the Central European universities in the regional development
The research project is in its nature explorative. It will be based on in-depth interviews with experts, a structured ex-post analysis of relevant projects. This should lead to a comparison of the situation and development in Southern-Transdanubia (Hungary) and Malopolska (Poland) regions. The aim is to develop a benchmarking system and best-practice culture for a mutual learning process.
The important role is the function of the University as a catalyst and incubator of innovation beside its classical academic educational function (life-long learning, applied science, vocational training - building a "knowledge based society").
By this project, via the mutual learning - which is the the best way of practising - a network of Higher Education Institutions can be set up with database of projects, this network can later help to exchange these practices. The experiences from both regions could be transferred to new or developing university towns.
Consequences: increasing the stimulating influence of HEIs as social, cultural and economic actors in transition economies.
The sustainability of the research project can be provided by its contribution to the human resources development: this will create a "pool" of teaching experts, but also cultural project managers from Central Europe.
The findings about the various aspects of the research are in preparation for publication, as well.
